Back in the days when we were allowed to travel freely and without restrictions (oh, those pre-Covid days!), a client took me to see new musical, The Jury, premiering at The Gatehouse in London. I was completely captivated by the intelligent, intricate music, the richness of the score and the evident talent of the composer. We started to chat over social media and I found out a bit more about him.
It turns out that Ashley Walsh is one of those ridiculously prolific creative people that I really enjoy working with and after a few conversations, a lot of gossip, too many giggles, and a virtual meeting (hurrah for Zoom) I was delighted when he asked to join my growing roster of musical theatre writers.
Ashley has an extraordinary amount of work already commissioned or in development. In addition to The Jury, Ashley's recent work also includes the brilliantly received Closets at the Hope Mill Theatre, praised for its "genre-bending score" and Old & Out at the Tramshed in Woolwich. At this uncertain time for our industry I think it's exciting to find creatives like Ashley who are riding the wave of new British musicals and firmly leading the charge for the next generation of talent. I'm hugely looking forward to working with him.
